Keeping Detroit safe
Garrett's number one priority is keeping Detroiters safe. He'll work to lower crime so that Detroiters have the freedom to work, play, and raise their families—without worrying about their safety.

Using the right tools to reduce crime
Garrett is laser-focused on using the right tools to reduce crimes. The police department has to use resources with a proven track record of success. That means doing away with ineffective technology like ShotSpotter and Facial Recognition Software—and emphasizing Community Violence Intervention.
Clearing the citizen complaint backlog
The Board of Police Commissioners is responsible for investigating the complaints that residents make against police officers. But the commission has let those complaints pile up—leaving thousands univestigated. That means bad cops aren't being held accountable. And we're less safe.
The backlog has been a problem for years. It's time to do something about it.
Treating Detroiters with respect
Detroiters deserve a police department that treats them the right way. To make that happen, we cannot tolerate police officers who harass Detroiters or violate their civil rights. Instead, we need to train officers on procedural fairness to ensure that residents are respected.
Professionalism
For too long, the Board of Police Commissioners has failed to work together to get things done. Commissioners routinely bicker. The city's Officer of Inspector General has reported on misconduct. And some commissioners have even been arrested during meetings. It's time for a police commission that takes its job seriously.
